The special zone for regulation of the green hydrogen industry in Chungcheongbuk-do based on biogas and ammonia will be promoted in earnest. Chungcheongbuk-do signed a business agreement with 13 institutions and companies, including Chungju City, Advanced Technology Research Institute, Chungbuk Technopark, and Han-wha at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Cheongju on the 10th.

The Special Regulatory Free Zone is an area designated in non-metropolitan areas so that various regulations can be suspended and exempted under the Special Zone Act so that projects based on new technologies can be freely promoted.

The Green Hydrogen Industry Regulatory Free Special Zone, which covers 345,895㎡ in Bongbang-dong and Daesowon-myeon, Chungju-si, was designated in July. Korea's first biogas-based high-quality, low-cost hydrogen production and the world's first commercial ammonia-based hydrogen production demonstration are the framework of the special zone project, and related projects will be carried out for two years from next month. The agreement is aimed at the early performance and spread of the special zone. The institutions and companies of the agreement are Wonik Materials (Cheongju), Hanwha (Boeun), Airlane (Cheongju), Dial (Jecheon), ASPE Inc. (Chungju), They are Chungbuk Techno Park (Cheongju), FITI Testing Research Institute (Cheongju), Advanced Technology Research Institute (Yongin), Hyundai Rotem (Uiwang), Wonik Holdings (Pyeongtaek), and Seojin Energy (Incheon).

Local companies will move and invest in Chungju for the smooth promotion of the special zone project. The province expects the special zone project to have economic ripple effects such as KRW 260.6 billion in sales, 299 employees, and 24 companies by 2033. It is also expected to reduce carbon by 2.512 million tons. This is the same as the planting effect of 17.989 million pine trees. It is also the effect of reducing emissions emitted by 1.034,000 cars for a year.

Governor Lee Si-jong said, "Chungbuk has set the stage for becoming the largest green hydrogen hub in the central region," adding, "We will continue to discover regulatory improvement projects so that hydrogen companies can dominate the global market."
